Alum Spring, Fredericksburg, Virginia

George Washington once surveyed this sandstone outcropping just outside of downtown. Known as Alum Spring Rock, it is 400 feet long and 40 feet high. The area was opened to the public as Alum Spring Park in 1965, when first-class postage cost 5 cents.
